MAcc Frequently Asked Questions
If I attended another institution as an undergraduate and did not take all the undergraduate-level accounting prerequisite courses, may I take them at UGA before applying to the MAcc Program?
This would only be possible if you applied and were accepted to the University of Georgia as an undergraduate. Additionally, you would have to apply to the Terry College of Business and the Accounting major — a process that takes more than one semester. Undergraduate accounting courses are reserved for UGA degree-seeking students, and we do not offer a "transient status." Individuals must complete at least Accounting Principles I & II, Intermediate Accounting I & II, Managerial/Cost I and Taxation I prior to applying to the MAcc Program.
Are MAcc classes offered at night, online or at other University of Georgia campuses (e.g., Gwinnett, Buckhead)?
No; all MAcc courses are held on weekdays at UGA's main campus in Athens, Georgia.
Do I have to take the GMAT, or can I submit GRE scores instead?
GMAT scores are required as part of the MAcc application; we do not accept GRE scores as a substitute.
Are applications considered on a rolling basis?
Yes; the MAcc Admissions Committee does not wait until the application deadline to convene, but instead meets periodically throughout the year to review completed applications. Recommendations are submitted to the UGA Graduate School on a rolling basis, and admissions decisions are forwarded to applicants as soon as possible.
Is there an advantage to completing my application prior to the deadline?
Yes, in that you receive an admissions decision sooner. Also, as seats are limited, we recommend completing your application as soon as possible.
Is there an advantage to applying for spring semester vs. fall semester admission?
No; there is no admissions advantage based on the semester requested for admission.
If I meet the GMAT score and GPA minimums, am I guaranteed admission?
No; limited seats and a large, competitive pool of applicants require our Admissions Committee to be highly selective.
As an international applicant, if my TOEFL score is below the minimum, will I still be considered for acceptance?
Due to the importance of communication skills within the accounting profession, we ask applicants have a minimum total TOEFL IBT score of at least 105. Based on the experience of the Admissions Committee, they feel strongly that applicants should meet the minimum TOEFL expectations to be seriously considered. It should also be noted that attainment of these scores does not guarantee admission, but is necessary to receive serious consideration.
When do I need to submit the Tull materials portion of the application (Tull information sheet, resume, essay, optional essay)?
Tull materials should be submitted as soon as possible after completing the UGA Graduate School online application. MAcc applications are considered incomplete until these are received. You may email these materials directly to the Tull School or mail/hand-deliver them to:

May I interview with the MAcc Admissions Committee?
No; interviews are not part of the MAcc application process. However, you are always welcome to visit with us at the University of Georgia and the J. M. Tull School of Accounting. Please contact Laura Clark to make arrangements.
How long will it take before I receive an admissions decision?
When the UGA Graduate School receives all application requirements, they send an email stating that your application is complete. When the Tull School receives all Tull materials and recommendations, we send a second email stating that your application is complete and is being submitted to the Admissions Committee for review. At that point, you should anticipate an admissions recommendation from Tull within three to four weeks. The Graduate School mails final admissions decisions.
If I am accepted to the MAcc, can I defer my acceptance to a future semester?
Please do not count on this option. We expect students to enroll in the semester for which they apply and are accepted, except in the case of extreme extenuating circumstances.
What is the best way to reach someone with additional questions regarding the MAcc Program?
