BBA Accounting Curriculum

Overview

Accounting faculty and students
Ernst & Young Executive Professor Dennis R. Beresford lectures on corporate governance.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with an Accounting major is designed to give the student an understanding of the theory of accounting as it is used in our society. A student’s course work may lead toward a business, public, or governmental accounting career. An accounting education provides an excellent background for non-business professions— such as law, and is helpful for advancement to top level management positions. For your planning purposes, refer to a projected Four-Year Plan (PDF | 171 KB) for the Accounting major. Many factors will affect the actual course scheduling, but this will provide a general plan of study.

All majors are required to complete a series of courses covering the field of business. Also available is an opportunity to participate in an internship program. Internships are not required, but are encouraged. Previous students have interned with "Big Four," national and local public accounting firms, and industries such as Georgia Pacific, Home Depot, and Turner Broadcasting, to name a few.

A student interested in an accounting major must first be admitted to the University’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences as a pre-business major. Online information and applications for UGA admission are available at UGA Admissions. During completion of specific courses and other requirements, a student may then apply to the Terry College as an accounting major. Entrance requirements, prerequisites, and application procedures are listed at the Terry College of Business Undergraduate website. Once admitted to the major, students will be advised within the Tull School. For specific information on the accounting requirements, see the current BBA Accounting Checksheet (PDF | 36 KB).

Five-Year Program

The Five-Year (BBA/MAcc) program is only available to currently enrolled BBA-accounting students at the University of Georgia. This program allows outstanding UGA-accounting students to apply for admission to Graduate School during their fourth/senior year at UGA. To be considered, students must have completed the first two semesters of the BBA Accounting program. This would include:

  • Acct 5000, Intermediate Accounting I
  • Acct 5010, Intermediate Accounting II
  • Acct 5100, Managerial I
  • Acct 5400, Tax I

Applicants must submit a complete Graduate School application as well as Tull School supplemental application materials. Details on the program and requirements are available on the MAcc pages.
