Degree Programs

The Bachelor of Business Administration, with its competitive admissions process, is the undergraduate business degree of choice in the state of Georgia. Offered as an upper-division program, the BBA degree in Athens enrolls only third- and fourth-year students and is committed to providing the highest quality educational experience to all students who are admitted to the program. www.terry.uga.edu/undergraduate

The Full-Time MBA in Athens focuses on developing each student as a well-prepared business professional, leader and contributing corporate citizen. This development involves an intensive curriculum designed to enhance business knowledge while helping each student concentrate on personal characteristics. Leadership experiences and skills practice are woven into the MBA curricular and extracurricular programming through workshops, team experiences, clubs and community service. This unique approach to teaching leadership allows MBAs to prepare for lifelong career success by working individually with professional coaches to integrate business acumen with leadership skills. Terry offers a traditional two-year program, as well as an accelerated 11-month MBA program for qualified candidates with an undergraduate degree in business. www.terry.uga.edu/mba

The Evening MBA in Atlanta was established in 2000 as a part-time option for working professionals in the metro area. The Evening MBA became the first Terry College degree program to be offered off-campus in nearly half a century. Students who begin in the fall and take two 3-hour classes per term can graduate within eight semesters, although they have up to 18 consecutive semesters to complete the program. The Evening MBA is Terry's largest MBA program, with an enrollment of about 250 students, and the flexible curriculum allows new students to enter the program at the beginning of either the fall or spring semesters. The Evening MBA is offered at the University of Georgia's Gwinnett campus. www.terry.uga.edu/mba

The IBM-Terry MBA is a customized graduate program designed for management consultants of IBM Business Consulting Services. The two-year degree is primarily delivered via distance-learning technology using Blackboard software. Students attend classes on campus for five days every three months. In between campus visits, they work with faculty independently and in teams, communicating by e-mail, virtual meeting rooms and streaming audio. www.ibm.com/services

The Executive MBA in Buckhead combines the hands-on learning and peer discussion of a traditional MBA with the convenience of distance education. Participants in the 18-month program average 15 years of work experience, which provides for rich classroom discussion and learning opportunities from one another. The program focuses on the development of personal leadership skills, with each class member assigned a leadership coach. Weekend classes take place about once a month and are combined with distance learning technologies that provide structure for independent learning and online interaction. Classes are held at the college's Executive Education Center, prominently located on Lenox Road in Buckhead. www.terry.uga.edu/emba

The Master of Accountancy prepares students for careers in accounting, as well as satisfying eligibility and licensing requirements for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Examination in Georgia. Recent results of the CPA Exam place the Terry College in the top 10 nationally for successful first-time pass rates. The MAcc degree allows students to continue their studies in the accounting area, specializing in Audit, Taxation, or Audit/Systems. An early enrollment program is available to qualified seniors majoring in accounting. This five-year option allows students to complete the BBA and MAcc degree requirements simultaneously. www.terry.uga.edu/accounting/degprog/macc

The Master of Marketing Research program educates professionals in market intelligence and marketing research and places graduates with leading companies, such as The Coca-Cola Company, IBM, Microsoft, Eli Lilly, General Mills, UPS, and ACNielsen. The MMR is a specialized, 12-month master's degree program. MMR students are provided a $5,000 assistantship and tuition waiver through a unique industry partnership and a $3 million endowment provided by the Coca-Cola Foundation and the 75 member firms of the MMR Advisory Board. Classes commence in June of each year. www.terry.uga.edu/mmr

The Master of Internet Technology in Gwinnett provides a balanced curriculum between technology and e-commerce management. Based in Lawrenceville on the University of Georgia's Gwinnett campus, graduate students in the part-time, lockstep program take classes in e-commerce, project management and Web application development and design over five semesters, culminating with a team project in which students develop an Internet-based solution for a client. MIT students learn to utilize Internet technologies to provide value-added business solutions. www.terry.uga.edu/mit

The PhD in Business Administration provides the academic expertise for careers in academe, business research and government policy. The doctoral program is individually planned for each student by a major professor and advisory committee. Doctoral students develop a high level of competency in research methodology and a major field of business. Doctoral degrees are awarded in eight academic disciplines. www.terry.uga.edu/phd

Strategic Initiatives

Leadership Development

The Institute for Leadership Advancement was established in 2000 as a multidisciplinary academic unit of the Terry College charged with developing leaders who enhance the performance of their organizations and communities. Through assessment, instruction and opportunities for experiential learning, leadership behaviors are studied, practiced and developed. Offering programs designed for undergraduates, graduate students, executives and business organizations, ILA is one of the most comprehensive leadership development institutes operating within a university setting anywhere in the country. www.terry.uga.edu/leadership

Executive Education

The Office of Executive Programs offers a growing number of executive education conferences, short courses and certificate programs that enhance the managerial and leadership skills needed for individual and organizational advancement. Participants learn practical, real-life business solutions and problem-solving techniques that they can implement immediately. The newly available Executive Program for Financial Planning Certification prepares participants to apply for the CFP® Certification Examination and is offered as a 13-month program in Atlanta, as well as online. Several Terry executive programs also can be customized to meet a client's needs in terms of location, duration and content. www.terry.uga.edu/exec_ed

Music Business

The Music Business Certificate Program is an academic partnership of the Terry College and the Hodgson School of Music. The program was developed as a response to the burgeoning growth of the music industry in Georgia. Atlanta is one of the fastest growing centers of urban music and other genres, and Athens was named the best college music town by Rolling Stone. The certificate program, which began offering classes in 2006, requires five to seven courses for completion, depending on a student's major. It introduces students to artist management, concert promotion, studio technology, business fundamentals, copyright and licensing. The program is open to all UGA students, who may apply as rising juniors. www.terry.uga.edu/musicbusiness

Executives-in-Residence

The mission of the Distinguished Executives-in-Residence Program is to enhance the academic excellence of the Terry College of Business by finding opportunities to expose students and faculty to the many lessons that can be learned from the careers of senior business executives as they transition away from the daily responsibilities of running a for-profit organization to the next phase of their professional endeavors. In support of this mission, Executives-in-Residence assist the Terry College in a variety of ways, including teaching courses, delivering guest lectures, connecting faculty and staff with the business community, mentoring students and serving on Terry College advisory boards.

C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry

In October of 1991, the College of Business Administration was renamed in honor of alumnus Herman Terry, and his wife, Mary Virginia. A Georgia native, Mr. Terry (BSC '39) held executive positions with several insurance firms, including president of Dependable Insurance Co. in Jacksonville, which he built into a major corporation. In 1990, the Terrys donated what was, at the time, the largest private gift in University history. That record gift endowed faculty chairs, a research fellowship program and scholarships. A year later, the state Board of Regents approved naming the college in their honor. Mr. Terry, who passed away in 1998, was an emeritus trustee of the UGA Foundation and in 1986 received the college's Distinguished Alumni Award.

Facilities

Brooks Hall

Built in 1928, the building was known as the Commerce-Journalism Building before being renamed in 1974 for R. Preston Brooks, the college's first dean. Brooks Hall houses the dean's office, a 300-seat auditorium and over 260 faculty and staff offices. The original structure was seriously damaged by fire in 1995 and restored a year later.

Sanford Hall

Funded through private gifts and dedicated in 1997, Sanford Hall has a student lounge, academic advising center, the Totally Terry store and 11 classrooms with seating capacity ranging from 10 to 330. The building accommodates wireless computer access, and every desktop in Sanford Hall - 900 seats in all - is equipped with a network connection for laptops.

Caldwell Hall

Built in 1981, Caldwell Hall's classroom technology has been upgraded to match Sanford Hall. The seven-story building is primarily devoted to classrooms and computer labs.

The Executive Education Center in Atlanta

Prominently located in the One Live Oak office complex on Lenox Road, across from Lenox Square Mall in Buckhead, the Terry College Executive Education Center became the home of the Terry Executive MBA program, as well as the Executive Program for Financial Planning Certification and other non-degree executive programs, beginning in 2005. Spanning three floors, the 25,000-square-foot facility features tiered executive classrooms, conference rooms, break-out meeting space, interview suites and offices for faculty, staff and Terry's executives-in-residence. The second floor has a large multipurpose room for receptions, dinners and other special events, including the college's Terry Third Thursday executive speaker series. Opening the Executive Education Center has been the most significant new development at the Terry College since Sanford Hall was built in 1997. The center serves as a hub for the college's activities in Atlanta, connecting Terry to the Atlanta business community.

Planning for New Facilities

The Terry College is in the process of reviewing architectural designs and has begun private fundraising in support of a new complex for the Terry College to be located at the corner of Baxter Street and Lumpkin Street. The site, which is central to campus and adjacent to the Student Learning Center, will create a self-contained learning community for the Terry College.
