White males not given fair shake in our society
Joel Samuelson
Believe it or not, the white male is the minority in America today. Not in terms of population or abundance, but rather in terms of rights. For example, women and blacks can cry out discrimination whenever they don’t get their way, and immediately, they are compensated. White men do not have that privilege. Today, a white male can bust his ass in college only to get overlooked for someone who is not as capable when looking for a job due to quotas (if you are black female, your chances of finding a job are greatly enhanced).
I am speaking of affirmative action. In 1978, the Supreme Court heard the landmark case regarding affirmative action, Bakke v. The University of California-Davis. Prior to 1978, Bakke, a white male with exceptional qualifications, was denied admission into medical school two times. Both times someone with inferior qualifications was admitted. The latter time a black female was admitted. It turned out that the school had been using a quota system, which is unfair and discriminatory. Bakke filed suit against the school on the grounds of reverse discrimination, and the Supreme Court found in his favor, thereby setting the precedent.
While I am on the subject of Supreme Court cases, let me day that the case Brown v. Board of Education, that most blacks refer to, found that segregation itself is discrimination. So all of the black beauty pageants, black promos, black history month, national holidays for blacks, the Malcolm X hats and shirts and the symbol of the African continent with red, yellow and _____ stripes are discriminating against the whites in this country as well as the so called minorities. If the blacks would agree to stop the state flag, and I’m sure other proud white Southerners would so the same. But, if the blacks fell the need to display their heritage, then let us display ours.
In a recent column, white males were chastised for being lazy and for having to use slaves, and also censured for the treatment of Native Americans. Let me say that if it weren’t for the European inventions and the white man’s hard work, this country would probably still be in the Dark Ages and so would the rest of the world. The Native Americans were on this continent long before the Europeans, but it was the Europeans that developed this country into what it is today.
Since a majority of the black population will not let the white man live down the slavery issue, let me ask of the readers out there one question:
Q: When and where did slavery begin?
A: Slavery dates back to the Egyptians - on the African continent.
If history is correct and complete, they held in slavery the
children of Israel for hundreds of years. The original slaves
brought to this country were sold to the Dutch by their own
people.
Now last spring, the infamous sister Souljah, during an interview about her song that extolled the killing of whites, stated, "Two wrongs don’t make it right. But damn sure makes it even." Well, I guess the score is tied. Taking the remark made by Jocelyn Walters and others into consideration, it looks like we’re heading into overtime.
Walters stated that the white man brought her here. Chances are that she was here, not brought here, and I know that there are many people in this country, including me, that would sacrifice an extra $1,000 in order to transport Walters, and others who share her beliefs back to the continent of her ROOTS. Perhaps it would be another 200 years before they started selling each other.
It’s about time this great melting pot stopped thinking
itself as many parts of a whole. It’s time to consider the whole itself
and what is best for its future. We must forget the diversity of our past
using it only to prevent similar mistakes. We cannot secure a healthy future
by fueling old flames and carrying the baggage of hate whether it be real
or manufactured in some psychotic mind.
